As long as two 6 feet men stacked on top of each other…
The Japanese Spider Crab is probably the largest crab on the earth. With a leg span of almost 12 feet (3.8m) and a weighing in at almost 42 pounds (19 kg), this is not an animal you want to mess around with.
The males have the largest claws. Yet despite it’s dangerous appearance they’re not very aggressive. But it has been known to cause serious injuries to Japanese fishermen.
In certain parts of Japan they’re considered a delicacy. Due to overfishing their numbers have dwindled in the last few decades. Authorities have forbidden catching these giants during spring when they move to shallower waters to reproduce. See how this creature is molting in this time-lapse video!
